The Jamaican Dollar (JMD) was the currency of Jamaica in 1969.
"Jay" is spoken on this currency. This is especially useful for tourists who mistake it often with the US dollar. US $ = 61.75 JMD
The abbreviation "J $" is often used. The 1 Jamaican Dollar is divided into 100 cents.
Jamaican dollar coins are available in 7 denominations: 1, 10 and 25 cents and 1, 5, 10, 20 dollars. The latter is very similar to the coin 1 euro. Banknotes are available in 5 denominations: 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 dollars.
In many places you can pay the euro and US dollars, but much cheaper and more comfortable will use the local currency.
T o facilitate and orientate some of the numerical values - it proposes to look good before you give
a banknote at the checkout, at first they are very wrong. But usually the salespeople know about this travelers’ mistake and with patience and a huge smile spend the right amount.

In Jamaica, banks and ATMs paying cash in Jamaican dollars are located in almost every major town. We should also not have the problem of exchanging imported funds with the local currency (the easiest ones are American dollars, Canadian dollars, British pounds and euros).
Currency can be exchanged in hotels, banks and bureaux. We do not advise exchanging money at the airport, just after arriving, because the more favorable currency rate is in typical tourist destinations.
The import and export of Jamaican dollars is prohibited.
